With over 20 years of experience in the Retail and Commercial Construction industry, Steve has been vital in enabling Near-Cal to adapt to the everchanging construction culture. He joined Near-Cal as a Project Engineer in 1997 after several years of managing the production of Kmart supercenters. Steve’s roles have been expansive, from Senior Project Manager to Vice President and, as of June 2019, he was named the President of Near-Cal Corporation. His Master’s in Business Administration and experience working in each level of the company, have given him a comprehensive perspective on how projects come together from start to finish. Steve excels in high-quality vision implementation, evidenced by the exclusive projects Near-Cal has completed and the launch of the Near-Cal’s Telecom Division in 2010. His passion for the industry and his employees is what drives his success.

Carl has been with Near-Cal since its inception back in 1964, his father, Hap, was the founder. His history and strong connection with the company augments his commitment to producing the best outcome possible. Carl has a 50 year background in the construction industry as well as a Master’s in Business Administration and a Master’s in Civil Engineering under his belt. He has recently transitioned from President to CEO, where he focuses on business development and plays a key role in the preconstruction and estimating process. Carl is known by past clients as a critical ally throughout the building process for his integrity and wisdom on all things construction.

Dwight Johnson, who retired from Near-Cal in 2014, was an integral part of the ownership team, serving as a partner with his younger brother Carl Johnson. Before Dwight entered the construction industry, he served in the Coast Guard as part of a search and rescue crew. He then went on to be a union carpenter and received his Associates degree in Small Business from Call State Fullerton. Devoting 42 years to Near-Cal, Dwight served as a superintendent and project manager before retiring as Executive Vice President.
Steve is Near-Cal’s VP of Operations and is responsible for ensuring that we meet our contractual obligations for every project. He has been involved in the construction industry for nearly 30 years and has been with Near-Cal for 15 years. Steve also serves as a senior project manager where he is responsible for managing project from contract through warranty. He has also served as superintendent, providing him a well-rounded perspective on project management.
Randy has 22 years of construction experience and serves as a project manager for Near-Cal, he has worked with Near-Cal since 2006. He is responsible for scheduling projects, completing submittals, negotiating all subcontracts, and overseeing all field personnel and office staff. Randy also is responsible for project finance control, environmental compliance, safety issues and programs.
Kevin brings more than 25 years of construction experience and has been with Near-Cal for the past 14 years. Over that time, he has advanced through roles including Project Superintendent, Project Manager, and Senior Project Manager, building extensive field and leadership expertise across all phases of construction delivery. As Director of Operations for California, Kevin leads statewide operations, ensuring every project is executed in alignment with plans, schedules, and Near-Cal’s standards of quality. His focus is on maintaining consistency across teams, driving operational efficiency, and ensuring successful project delivery from start to finish.
